Encouraging Tomorrow's Talents: A Deep Dive into the Pioneering Cartier Watchmaking Prize

Published: 03 Jul 2026
The Cartier Prize for Watchmaking Talents of Tomorrow is an illustrious award encouraging the mettle and creativity of tomorrow's horological artisans.

Cartier is famed for its distinctive and imaginative approach to horology, from the iconic Santos wristwatch’s unique square case to the beguiling mystery clocks, the brand’s inventive spirit resonates in its creations. This innovative sensibility shines brightly within the Cartier Prize for Watchmaking Talents of Tomorrow, a prestigious accolade recognizing promising young horologists since 1995. Through this initiative, Cartier forges a path for aspiring horologists to explore and express their creativity unrestricted by conventional norms, paving way for the evolution of horological artistry. For its most recent edition, students from Switzerland, France, and Belgium were given a unique challenge to construct a timepiece influenced by the movement of a pendulum, simultaneously exploring the theme of comprehending and expressing time differently. The resulting timepieces were awe-inspiring products of technical acumen and artistic passion, pushing the boundaries of the Cartier design ethos. The awarding ceremony, held at Cartier’s Maison des Métiers d’Art, celebrated these innovative creations and their creators.

The adjudication panel, studded with industry stalwarts, evaluated each piece on unique parameters. The awards were catalogued into two categories, namely Apprentice Watchmakers and Technicians. In total, there were six victors, three in each category, to whom Cartier extended opportunities for individual skill and technical enhancement. Aymeric Peters from IATA, a watchmaking school in Namur, Belgium, clinched the first prize in the Apprentice category with his piece titled ‘Chosen Silence’. Beyond acknowledging the outstanding talent of these young watchmakers, the Cartier Prize embodies the brand’s commitment to continuous learning and the preservation of its unique savoir faire. It stands as testament to the age-old adage, nothing empowers the future more than investment in knowledge and innovation.
