The Magnificent Design of Louis Vuitton's Minute-Repeater Pocket Watch Celebrates the Majestic Mount Fuji

A few years prior, the luxury Louis Vuitton watchmaking facility in Geneva unveiled a remarkable creation, the Escale pocket watch. Crafted as the foundation for a range of uniquely artistic automaton minute-repeater pocket watches, these timepieces were intended to exist within Louis Vuitton’s Escale family of watches, allowing the brand to showcase its exceptional craftsmanship and intricate decoration.

The resulting Louis Vuitton Escales Autour Du Monde pocket watches are essentially miniature museums, each piece a testament to the intricate art of watchmaking. Although these pocket watches may not be for everyone, given their distinctive theme and hefty price tag, they are nonetheless remarkable examples of design and detailing. Aspects that some may consider as overly extravagant serve as compelling demonstrations of form and technique.

The time on these pocket watches is not conventionally displayed. The timepiece instead features multiple jaquemarts (small animated figurines on the dial) that spring into action when the minute repeater lever on the side of the case is triggered, chiming out the hours and minutes in a musical fashion. One of the standout attractions is a small boat filled with Louis Vuitton trunks that animate and move along the ‘water’ when the lever is activated.

The bezel is decorated with 60 baguette-cut sapphires arranged in a semi-rainbow pattern, reflecting the pastel hues of Mount Fuji’s sky, and the minute details of the fisherman in the boat add further delight to the already stunning creation.
