The 17th and 18th centuries marked France’s golden age of horology, birthing eminent figures such as Julien Le Roy, Ferdinand Berthoud, and Abraham-Louis Breguet. This rich legacy might have influenced the inception of Swiss watchmaking, especially following the expulsion of French Protestants in 1685. Although Swiss watchmaking dominated in later years, French horology didn’t vanish, instead undergoing a modest revival led by brands like Pequignet.

Although not universally known, Pequignet’s self-produced timepieces have steadily garnered attention. Their latest offering is an updated, unique take on the revered Royale Paris collection. Pequignet’s revival stabilized in 2021, following the acquisition by Enowe Excellence, a family investment fund focused on promoting superior French craftsmanship.

Designed to accommodate Pequignet’s inaugural in-house automatic calibre Royal, the Royale collection unveils a revamped Royale Paris Power Reserve-Small Seconds model. It boasts of a more compact 39.5mm case size with a stylish allure on both case and dial.

The French are renowned for their inherent style sense, which is evident in this timepiece too. The refurbishment reveals thoughtful details both on the case and dial that raise the timepiece’s panache.
