Feast on the Master Craftsmanship of David Candaux’s Avant-garde DC1 & DC6 Titanium Watches

David Candaux, a Swiss watchmaker spanning multiple generations, creates exquisite timepieces in limited quantities from his Vallée de Joux studio. In focus for this review are two of his mechanical masterpieces, the David Candaux DC1 and the David Candaux DC6. Both watches are mechanically distinctive, both in terms of their tourbillon style and the crown systems they utilize. The DC6 was first showcased at Baselworld in 2018, followed by a limited edition release with orange accents called the David Candaux DC6 Solstice Half Hunter Tourbillon. Later, the ‘Half Hunter Tourbillon’ moniker was dropped, and the watch became simply known as the David Candaux DC6 Titanium. Subsequently, Candaux introduced the similarly styled DC1 Titanium.

More recently, Candaux unveiled an equally enchanting but mechanically simpler model, the David Candaux DC12 MaveriK. Despite its origin dating back almost eight years (excluding development time), it’s relatively little known. Throughout these years, David Candaux meticulously refined his timepieces by enhancing production techniques across multiple versions and series. It’s worth noting that David Candaux’s brand produces less than 100 watches annually in Switzerland.

David Candaux’s journey to popular recognition sheds light on how long independent watchmakers can toil in obscurity, crafting fine watches for years before gaining awareness and popularity. But as his watches show, patience and dedication do pay off.
